Henry Resigns as Clerk of Court, Marking History as First Black Countywide Elected Official - Clark, OH
Sheila (Rice) Henry, Clark County’s first Black countywide elected official and the Clerk of the Clark County Municipal Court, announced her resignation effective Dec. 31, 2024, citing family reasons. Henry, initially appointed in 2021 and later elected in 2023 with 66% of the vote, described her role as a dream opportunity. During her tenure, she introduced improvements like online forms, multiple cashiers, and support for record-sealing and expungement clinics.
Her resignation comes before her term’s scheduled end in 2025. Municipal Court judges will appoint an interim clerk, with the Democratic Party selecting a replacement for the remainder of her term in January 2025. A new clerk will be elected in November 2025.
Henry, who previously held roles in both municipal and common pleas courts and operated the Ohio License Bureau South for 20 years, was commended for her dedication and contributions to the community.
We at RRS are grateful for Clerk Henry’s work over the years. Thank you Clerk Henry!
